Program
Participants of the Australian Asthma Conference 2008 can expect to be part of a program that will:
- Provide new understandings about asthma.
Expect to hear from well respected asthma researchers and respiratory specialists in the areas of obesity, allergy, medications, asthma control, consumer insights, future research directions and more
- Provide knowledge and skills for health professionals about communicating the science of asthma effectively to consumers to ensure good self management.
Clinical sessions targeted specifically to health professionals will provide practically useful knowledge and skills on topics we regularly confront in practice. Come along and hear what you should be telling people with asthma about topics like exercise, medications, long term outcomes, allergy, smoking, pathophysiology, dust mites etc.
- Inform about the Australian landscape of tomorrow and its implications for asthma and the way it is managed. Together we will be considering how new technologies, climate change and air quality, amongst other issues, will impact on an individual’s journey with asthma and the way in which health professionals and others can support them.
- Inform about future public policy agendas in Australia and their implications for asthma and the way it is managed.
At a time when the asthma contact is changing we will be aiming to grow our collective understanding of future health policy in Australia, what this means for asthma, and how we can collectively shape health policy for the benefit of people with respiratory disease.
We know that by the end of the conference you will have been challenged to think about where in fact we are advancing asthma, and what that will mean for an individual’s journey with asthma in the future and the way health professionals will support them.

AFA and NAC Asthma Research Award
Funded by the National Asthma Council (NAC) to the value of $500, the AFA and NAC Asthma Research Award is awarded to the best abstract or poster presented at the Conference. Independent representatives from AFA judge the award, which will be presented during the Welcome Reception on Monday 20th October.
